Connecticut Elevation (LiDAR) Data

The lidar maps appear seamless but are actually a combinatoin of overlapping datasets. The instructions below are to enable you to determine which dataset is being displayed at any location.

Visit the CT ECO Lidar Information page for descriptions and detailed information about each dataset.

How do I find out which dataset is being displayed on my map?

- Go to the Elevation Viewer.

- In the upper right corner, click the layer list button .

- Check ON Towns and Footprints. Check OFF everything else (Layer List graphic, right).

- On the map, use the zoom tools, place search or mouse scroll wheel to zoom to your area.

- Left-click on the map on the location of interest. A pop-up will open. The first item is likely the town name. Click the small white arrow in the upper right corner of the popup.

This will name and highlight on the map (cyan colored outline) the dataset(s) that exist at that location. If more than one is present, the newest one is used in the map with the exception of where the 2010 NRCS East and 2011 New England Lidar overlap. In this case, the 2010 NRCS East is used because it is a higher quality dataset.

- The Legend button in the upper right corner of viewer may be helpful when determining which dataset you are looking at.
