DEEP Property is a polygon feature-based layer that includes all land owned in fee simple interest by the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. This layer is based on information that was collected and mapped at various scales and at different levels of accuracy. Generally, partial interests such as easements or development rights are not included in this layer. The exception is flood control areas, which may include permanent easements. Types of property in this layer include parks, forests, wildlife areas, flood control areas, scenic preserves, natural areas, historic reserves, DEEP owned waterbodies, water access sites and other miscellaneous properties. This layer is current and is updated as parcels are acquired by DEEP.
DEEP Property contains property that comprises DEEP facilities such as state forests, parks and wildlife management areas. This layer can be used with the Federal Property and Municipal Open Space layers for a more comprehensive understanding of open space and recreation land throughout the State of Connecticut.

This data is published by the State of Connecticut using ArcGIS software developed by Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) in a Microsoft Windows operating system environment.
Attributes in the DEP Property layer have valid values. Values are within defined domains. The AV_LEGEND values are based on the AGNCYFN_CD values. AV_LEGEND decodes the AGNCYFN_CD field. PROPERTY values are based on the DEP_ID values. PROPERTY decodes the DEP_ID field. The values in the above fields have been checked for accuracy by comparing each value to its corresponding value in the related field. AGNCY_NO is always "3100" for the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and was verified for each feature. ACRE_GIS, SHAPE_AREA, and SHAPE_LENGTH are all software calculated. ACRE_GIS is the feature area in acres, while SHAPE_AREA and SHAPE_LENGTH are the feature area and length in feet.
No topological rules were applied. No consistency is assumed or implied. Features were digitized by a variety of methods including tablet digitizing, heads-up (screen) digitizing, coordinate geometry data entry, and data retrieved from global positioning satellites (GPS).
The completeness of the data reflects the best available parcel acquisition records within the State of Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection. However, there may be omissions due to file errors, incomplete files, missing files, or staff error in the file retrieval process. No indication of completeness percentage is possible.
No overall positional accuracy level can be established since a variety of methods was used to map, compile and digitize the parcel features. Consequently, the information can be assumed to be no more positionally accurate than the least accurate method, which involved tablet or heads-up digitizing at 1:24000 scale.

An automated process derives the DEEP Property feature class from the DEEP Parcel polygon features. This process merges adjacent DEEP Parcel polygon features to form DEEP Property features that represent continguous land holdings for the respective state park, forest, wildlife management area, etc. This process is periodically run to recreate the DEEP Property data after the DEEP Parcels data is changed to include new acquisitions or modified to correct errors, etc.
